The Reverend Canon John Tidy

Canon to the Ordinary

Prior to his appointment, John served as priest-in-charge and then Rector of All Souls’, Miami Beach, for eleven years. He came to Southeast Florida from the Diocese of Jerusalem where he held interim roles as Dean of St. George’s College and St. George’s Cathedral. He had previously served there as Dean of the Cathedral during the second Intifada in the 1990’s.

John is a native Englishman. He graduated from King’s College, London, and was ordained to the Diocese of Durham in 1973 where he served two parishes before moving south to West Yorkshire, from where he left for Jerusalem. He later returned to the western suburbs of London to serve as Vicar of a large parish with two congregations and two historic buildings.

In Southeast Florida, John has served on the Commission on Ministry, taught New Testament at Diocesan School, is an Examining Chaplain, and served on the Bishop Search Committee. Most recently he has served two terms as President of the Standing Committee, and coordinated the consultation process across the diocese in collaboration with Susan Czolgosz and Holy Cow! Consulting. He brings to the role a breadth of experience and insight into the challenges of ministry in both a small and large church settings in a time of rapid change.
