The
Net
wins top award from Episcopal Communicators
For
the second year, Southeast Florida’s diocesan publications have
been honored by Episcopal Communicators at the organization’s
annual Polly Bond Awards. At the annual communicators conference,
held Apr. 18-22 at Camp Allen, Tex., The Net received the
top Award of Excellence, for “General Excellence”, for a newspaper
with a circulation of over 12,000.
“Good
reporting, tight editing, exceptional use of color make The
Net stand out among Episcopal publications,” the judges said.
“Lively writing and great photography reflect the vitality of
the Diocese of Southeast Florida. The Net clearly catches
the top spot in its class.”
The
paper also received an Award of Excellence (first place) for in-depth
coverage of the bishop search, election and transition process,
and another first place for Fr. David Francoeur’s “Off the Church
Wall” cartoons.
Honorable
mentions were awarded for layout editor Dan Clifford’s front-page
layout in the special section on Bishop Schofield’s retirement,
and in the “news story” category, for editor Mary Cox’s story
on Deacon Miriam Pratt’s death and funeral.
The
EpiscoRat cartoons
in Grapevine won an Award of Merit (second place) for humor
in a publication with circulation under 12,000.
Last
year EpiscoRat received an Award of Excellence in the a separate
category for graphic humor, and The Net received four Awards
of Excellence and one Award of Merit, but was not entered for
General Excellence.
