The Venerable Dr. Bryan A. Hobbs

The Venerable Dr. Bryan A. Hobbs was born on April 20, 1946 in Connellsville, Pennsylvania.  He spent his childhood years in West Virginia.

Hobbs graduated from the School of Theology at the University of the South in 1975.  He was ordained as a deacon at St. Paul’s Church, Key West, on June 1 of that year, and as a priest at St. Peter’s Church, Key West, on December 11, during St. Peter’s 100th anniversary celebration.  He received a Doctorate of Ministry in Missions and Church Growth from Fuller Theological Seminary in 1997. His dissertation, he says, dealt with “the development of ‘Purpose-Driven Church’ concepts in the Episcopal Church.”

Archdeacon Hobbs served at all three churches in Key West, Florida.  He was the Assistant to the Rector at St. Paul’s Church from 1975-1976.  He was Rector at St. Peter’s Church from 1975-1978 and Holy Innocents from 1976-1978.  He served as Rector at Holy Sacrament Church in Pembroke Pines, Florida from 1978-2002.  Under his leadership, Holy Sacrament grew from a small mission congregation to a parish of well over 1000 members. In January 2003, Hobbs was instituted as Archdeacon of Congregational Ministries for the Diocese of Southeast Florida.

His passion is serving on Mission Teams.  He has led numerous Mission Teams serving in Panama, Honduras, the Virgin Islands, the Bahamas, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic.

Archdeacon Hobbs and his wife Annabel were married on June 1, 1968.  They have two adult daughters and five grandchildren.
