Executive Board Orientation

Newly-elected members of the diocesan Executive Board joined continuing members at the Duncan Center November 13 and 14 for an opportunity to get acquainted with each other and with the work of the Board.

Chancellor Bob Gunn explained legal and canonical responsibilities of the Board as "the board of directors of this corporation" and the diocesan secretary, Canon Kerry Robb, reviewed meeting dates and told the new Board members "we don't want you to be afraid to ask questions". Conveners of the five ministries--Administration, Communication, Education, Growth and Evangelism, Human Needs--presented the work of the committees and commissions assigned to them. Chairs of Executive Board committees--Budget, Property and Loan, Assessment Appeals--outlined their responsibilities. Diocesan Treasurer Tom Huston reviewed the format of financial reports.

Fr. Bob Taylor, Assessment Appeals Chair, describes the work of his committee

Property and Loan Chair Donnie Carter, North Palm Dean Steve Thomas, Fr. David Francoeur and Al Ferguson listen intently to the Assessment Appeals presentation.

Treasurer Tom Huston outlines financial documents.

Budget Committee Chairman Al Topping (left) talks with Bishop Said before the Budget Committee presentation.

Donnie Carter explains the work of the Property and Loan Committee.

Before dinner there was time for conversation.

Diocesan Director of Youth Ministry Fr. Reggie Payne-Wiens chats with Bishop Frade.

Diocesan ECW President Verneka Silva (left) and North Dade Lay Representative Gwen Sims say they are "sisters"--ECW sisters, and sorority sisters, too.

After dinner Bishop Frade introduced to the Board "the best part of the Frade family--my wife". Diana Frade showed a video of the Our Little Roses Home and School in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, and spoke briefly about the home's ministry to abused and abandoned girls.

"There is a lot to do right here...", Mrs. Frade said. "I want to get people involved in outreach ministry right here around you...I want to help southeast Florida to look at opportunities to help children right here."

An evening discussion, based on the book Who Moved My Cheese?, focused on managing change.

Shirley Hunte (South Dade Lay Representative), Fr. David Francoeur and Canon Fred Masterman reflect on their personal responses to change.

Dean Williamson Taylor, Victor Rickards and Dean Steve Zimmerman consider the question "What is the 'cheese' the church is seeking?"

Bishop Frade makes a point about goals for the diocese, as Cans Robb (left) and Silla (right) listen.

At the end of the evening's discussion the bishop reflected, "How awesome is the task we have ahead of us--to be Christ to our brothers and sisters in this diocese and in the world."
