Notes
from the
Episcopal 73rd General Convention in Denver
July 4 - 13, 2000
Between 50 and 75 people from the Diocese of Southeast Florida
were among the close to 15,000 who attended at least some part
of General Convention, some as guests, but most as deputies, alternates,
exhibitors, volunteers, translators, press--in short, workers
!
General Convention actions included: Approval of full communion
with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America; recognizing
"life-long committed relationships" other than marriage
(but rejection of a resolve that would have called for drafting
liturgies for "expressing support" of such relationships);
calling for continued monitoring of implementation of the canons
regarding women's ordination; and urging the removal of handguns
and assault weapons from homes, vehicles and communities.
