The Brotherhood of St. Andrew
Diocese of Southeast Florida
Standing Committee

The Brotherhood of St. Andrew is organized according to the structure of the Episcopal Church, by provinces and diocese.  The Diocese of Southeast Florida is in Province IV, which includes most of the Southeast states, up to and including North Carolina.  The basic operational unit is the Chapter, which exists at the parish level.  The chapters are organized under the Diocese Assembly, which is made up of representatives from each chapter.

The function of the Assembly is to provide general guidance to the chapters, based on direction from the rectors and bishops of the diocese.  To that end, the Assembly of the Diocese of Southeast Florida will establish Standing Committees as are seen appropriate.  We have seen a clear need of two Standing Committees--for development of youth programs, and for ongoing support of the Duncan Center.

Youth Program development-- The Standing Committee was recently formed and is the process of being staffed.  The current Committee Chairman is Brian Rowland of St. Joseph’s in Boynton Beach.

Chapter membership in the Brotherhood is open to any baptized Episcopalian man 18 years of age or older.  There is also a program for Youth Chapters for young men aged 13 to 17, which may be chartered and initiated as needed by a particular parish.  For information regarding a Youth Chapter in your parish, please contact Brian Rowland at 561- 733-8639 or Diocesan Coordinator George Booth at 561-738-0554

We have also established an ongoing program to send young men to Camp Wingmann for summer camp.  This is a great place for kids and it is easily reachable by Amtrak.

Duncan Center Support Committee--Many members of the Diocese of Southeast Florida are familiar with the Duncan Center in Delray Beach through Cursillo or many other diocesan activities over the years.  The Duncan Center is very much the parish hall of the diocese, and a plan for expansion of the Center is being aggressively pursued at this time. The Vision 2000 plan calls for the addition of a chapel and a conference room building . The project is still in the planning phase but a preliminary project schedule is being adopted. The Brotherhood chapters will be responsible for being completely familiar with the Vision 2000 plan and the status of the project in order to keep their respective parishes updated.

The Duncan Center is about 25 years old and in need of maintenance.  It is hoped that there will be a role in the ongoing support of the Center for the Brotherhood, but it has not been formalized at this time.
