Fr.
Barry, a native Miamian, has been rector of Historic St.
Agnes Church, Miami, since 1977, and has been recognized
by the city of Miami, as well as by other churches, for
his work in Miami’s Overtown community. In 1972, when he
was vicar of St. Simon the Cyrenian in Ft. Pierce, Fla.,
he led a class action suit to integrate the schools in St.
Lucie County, and has been active in human rights efforts
throughout his ministry. He has served as a delegate to
General Convention, dean of the North Dade Deanery and as
a member of the diocesan budget committee. Last year he
was one of the six candidates for diocesan bishop.
Fr.
Barry is already a canon of St. Peter’s African Orthodox
Cathedral in Miami, honored by that church in 1995 for his
life and ministry.
